Dental floss: Why it is essential for your oral health

Dental floss (floss) is a thin, flexible thread used to clean the spaces between the teeth. It effectively removes food debris and plaque that are difficult to reach with a toothbrush. Floss is available in various forms: waxed, unwaxed,  or special floss picks. Flossing is particularly important for gum health, as it prevents bacterial buildup, which can lead to gingivitis or periodontal disease. Benefits of using dental floss Regular use of floss has numerous benefits for your oral health:: 1.     Thorough cleaningFloss removes food particles and plaque between the teeth, where a toothbrush cannot reach. This reduces the risk of tooth decay. 2.     Improving gum healthUsing floss helps prevent gum inflammation, which is caused by the buildup of plaque. It protects the gums from developing gingivitis or gum recession. 3.     Improving breathFood particles trapped between teeth can cause bad breath. Floss effectively removes these particles, which ensures fresh breath in the oral cavity. Types of dental floss There are different types of floss to suit various needs: 1.     Waxed flossIt is covered with a thin layer of wax, which makes it easier to slide between teeth, especially if you have tightly spaced teeth. 2.     Unwaxed flossIt is thinner and ideal for those who prefer a less slippery surface. 3.     Flavored flossIt comes in mint or other flavors, which makes flossing more pleasant. 4.     Floss picksThey are easy to use, especially for children or those who struggle with manual flossing. 5.     Super flossDesigned for patients with orthodontic braces, as it facilitates cleaning hard-to-reach areas. Tips for using dental floss Choose the right floss for you: If you are unsure which type of floss is best for you, consult your dentist. Be gentle: Very strong pressure can damage your gums, especially if they are sensitive. Use it daily: Daily use of floss ensures maximum results. Consider alternatives: If using floss is difficult, try interdental brushes or water flossers. The Ultimate Guide to Oral Hygiene – How to Maintain Healthy Teeth and Gums

Why is oral care important? Oral hygiene is important not only for teeth and gum health, but for overall well-being. Cavities, gingivitis, or periodontal disease can lead to serious complications, including general health problems, such as heart disease or diabetes. Proper oral care reduces the need for dental procedures and helps you maintain a healthy smile throughout your life. Key steps for complete oral care: 1. Brush your teeth correctly Brushing teeth is an important stage of oral hygiene. Brush your teeth twice a day, for at least two minutes, using fluoride-containing toothpaste. Fluoride strengthens tooth enamel and protects against cavities. Use a toothbrush with soft bristles and brush with gentle, circular motions to avoid damaging your gums. Replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months. 2. Use dental floss Dental floss (floss) is essential for removing food particles and plaque from between teeth, where a toothbrush cannot reach. Use floss once a day, preferably before bed. If you find it difficult to use floss, try floss picks or interdental brushes, which make cleaning interdental spaces easier. 3. Use mouthwash Antibacterial or fluoride-containing mouthwash reduces the number of bacteria, protects gums from inflammation, and strengthens enamel. Rinse with mouthwash 30 seconds after every tooth brushing, especially if you consume sugary foods. 4. Eat healthy foods Healthy diet plays an important role in oral health. Eat fruits, vegetables, dairy products and grains, which stimulate saliva production and help in the removal of food particles. Avoid sugary foods and fizzy drinks, which contribute to cavity development. If you eat sweets, rinse with water or brush your teeth. 5. Visit a dentist regularly A visit to the dentist twice a year for professional cleaning and oral cavity check-ups is essential for the early detection of caries, gum diseases or other problems. What should you do when a problem arises? If you notice signs of caries, gum inflammation, or other dental problems, consult a dentist immediately. Early diagnosis and treatment (such as fluoride therapy, tooth filling, or root canal treatment) will help you avoid serious complications, such as tooth extraction. The dentist will use visual inspection, probing, or radiography to determine the severity of the problem and choose the appropriate treatment. Maryland bridge – a modern and minimally invasive method of tooth restoration

What is a Maryland bridge?A Maryland bridge is a dental restoration used in cases of single tooth loss. Unlike a traditional bridge, the Maryland bridge is attached to the adjacent natural teeth using special "wings" that are firmly bonded to the back side.Its structure consists of:- Pontic – this is the artificial tooth that fills the space of the missing tooth.- Wings – small attachment elements that are bonded to the adjacent teeth.With this method, the dentist does not need to file down the neighboring teeth, which is one of the main advantages.   Pros and Cons of a Maryland BridgePros:- Less invasive procedure – there is no need to grind down the adjacent teeth; - Fast procedure - the procedure takes a few hours and is performed directly in the mouth;- More affordable price than implants;- Maintains a natural appearance.Cons:- Less durable than dental implants;- Sometimes the wing adhesive can weaken, requiring re-fixation.

Dental bridge

What is a dental bridge? A dental bridge is used to replace missing teeth. It is used to replace both a single missing tooth and several teeth. Dental bridge structure A bridge consists of several key components: The bridge abutment, or the part that supports the bridge structure; in the case of a natural tooth, this can be a prepared tooth crown, or in the case of an implant, the upper part of the implant, also known as an abutment. The pontic of the bridge - that is, the part that fills in the missing tooth. Dental bridge types The main types of dental bridges are: 1. Traditional ceramic bridge – the most common form. It consists of two crowns attached to adjacent teeth, with an artificial tooth filling the gap.2. Cantilever bridge – a bridge anchored to a support on one side. It is used when there is a natural tooth on only one side of the space. It is relatively weaker compared to the traditional one.3. Maryland bridge – instead of crowns, composite material is used, which is attached to the back surface of the neighboring teeth. 4. Implant-supported bridge – fixed onto dental implants placed into the jawbone. It is ideal in case of loss of three or more teeth. Bridge advantages and disadvantages Advantages:- Natural appearance and aesthetics;- Prevention of shifting of adjacent teeth;Disadvantages:- Risk of damaging the abutment teeth;- If neighboring teeth are weak, they may not be able to withstand the load; How long does a dental bridge last? On average, the lifespan of a bridge is 10-15 years. With good care, it can last longer, but it will require replacement over time. Dental bridge maintenance For the long-term preservation of the bridge, the following is required:- Regular brushing and flossing;- Use of fluoride-containing toothpaste;- Avoiding very hard or sticky foods;- Periodic check-ups with a dentist;

Wisdom teeth

Wisdom teeth, or third molars (the back part of the mouth) erupt the latest, usually in the teenage years or early twenties. This is a normal part of oral development. A person, usually, has four wisdom teeth – two upper jaw and the two lower jaws. Some wisdom teeth erupt without problems, but sometimes they are problematic, which may make it necessary to extract them or perform some other treatment. Problems associated with wisdom teeth Sometimes wisdom teeth grow in sideways or crowd the adjacent teeth or gums, which is called impaction. Impaction can cause pain, infection, decay of the neighboring tooth, or inflammation of the gums (pericoronitis). Crowded wisdom teeth often cause cheek irritation, sores, or chewing problems. Wisdom tooth extraction is necessary if: - There is not enough space in the oral cavity for the tooth to erupt properly; - You have pain, infection, or damage to neighboring teeth. Signs of gum infection that can be caused by a wisdom tooth: - Redness or inflammation of the gums near the wisdom tooth;  - Swelling of the face;  - Pain and sensitivity;  - Pus from the gums;  - Swollen lymph nodes under the jaw; - Difficulty opening your mouth or swallowing;  - Fever;  - Unpleasant odor in the oral cavity; Wisdom teeth extraction In the case of wisdom tooth extraction, local anesthesia is often sufficient. If the tooth is deeply embedded in the gum or is difficult to extract, general anesthesia may be required. After extraction, the wound may be stitched to ensure proper healing. One-possible complication is alveolar osteitis, where the wound does not heal properly, causing severe pain and a bad odor. This is more common among smokers or people with poor wound healing. This complication is treatable. Why is early wisdom tooth extraction important? The longer you delay the extraction, the greater the risk of complications and damage to neighboring teeth. During the teenage years, the roots of wisdom teeth are still forming, so their extraction is easier and the healing process is faster than in adulthood, when the roots are fully formed and the procedure may cause complications. Teeth whitening

Teeth whitening is a modern cosmetic dental procedure that makes teeth whiter, cleaner, and more aesthetic. The procedure is performed using special brightening agents — most commonly used are Hydrogen Peroxide and Carbamide Peroxide. These components penetrate the tooth enamel and break down the dark stains accumulated over time, which appear due to the following reasons: ·        Frequent consumption of coffee, tea, and red wine; ·        Tobacco use; ·        Insufficient oral hygiene; ·        Age-related changes that naturally reduce the whiteness of teeth; Types of teeth whitening There are several types of teeth whitening. It is important to note that a consultation with a dentist is necessary before whitening. The procedure always begins with a check-up of the condition of the teeth and gums. Zoom whitening Zoom is a combined type of whitening that includes several stages: ·        Cleaning the teeth; ·        Treatment with a special gel; ·        Treatment with fluoride-containing preparations to protect the tooth tissue. Zoom whitening is very popular because the procedure lasts only a few minutes and the result is visible quickly. The achieved effect is long-lasting if you follow the dentist's recommendations. Ultrasonic whitening Ultrasonic whitening is an instrumental method and is considered one of the gentlest options for teeth whitening, which makes it suitable even for sensitive teeth. Through the action of ultrasonic waves, stains, plaque, calculus, and food debris are effectively removed from the enamel surface. After completing the procedure, the surface of the teeth is treated with special agents that protect the enamel from the effects of various substances. The resulting effect lasts for a long time, however, ultrasonic whitening only restores the natural whiteness of the teeth and is not considered a deep whitening method..   Laser teeth whitening One of the most effective hardware-type whitening methods is laser whitening, which involves targeted laser action on the tooth tissue. The unique properties of the laser allow for deep-level whitening — not only on the surface of the enamel but also in the deep layers of the tooth. During laser whitening, the intensity of the effect is individually adjusted for each section of the tooth, depending on the degree of its staining. The result remains healthy for several years, and repeating the procedure is often unnecessary. A single session, asRule, does not exceed 60 minutes. This whitening method can be used only if the patient has no teeth or gum problems. Even in cases where caries is present at an initial stage, treatment is carried out first. Laser whitening is considered the most effective, safe, and gentle method, which, compared to other types, provides a much more durable and long-lasting result. Combined whitening Combined whitening involves the application of chemical agents to tooth tissue. Chemical whitening is a deep-acting method that allows for the enamel color to be lightened by several shades. During the procedure, the patient receives detailed instructions on how to carry out additional procedures at home, while correction and consolidation of the results take place at the dentist's office. Chemical whitening usually requires 1-3 sessions, each lasting approximately 30 minutes. The effect lasts 2-4 years, and if necessary, the procedure can be repeated without damaging the health of the teeth. Why iCare Dental Clinic? iCare Dental Clinic offers  teeth whitening with the highest quality standards: Modern equipment: Turbo LED device ensures aesthetic results. Personalized approach: We create an individual treatment plan for each patient. Free consultation: You can book a free consultation with us to discuss the procedure details with our specialist.

Gingival recession

Gum recession is a process in which the gum tissue surrounding the teeth recedes or pulls back, causing a large part of the tooth or its root to become exposed. During gum recession, "pockets" or gaps form between the teeth and the gum line, which makes it easier for bacteria to accumulate. If left untreated, the tissue and bone structures that support the teeth can be seriously damaged and develop into more severe dental problems. Gum recession is a common dental problem. Many people may not even know they have this problem because it develops gradually. The first sign of gum recession is usually tooth sensitivity, or you might notice that a tooth looks longer than usual. Why does gum recession occur? Gum recession is caused by several factors, including: 1.     Periodontal disease: Bacterial infections, such as gingivitis or periodontitis, are the main causes of gum recession. These conditions destroy gum tissue and supporting bone. 2.     Aggressive tooth brushing: Brushing too hard or using a hard-bristled toothbrush can damage gum tissue over time. 3.     Insufficient oral hygiene: Inadequate brushing and flossing allow plaque and tartar to irritate the gums and cause them to recede. 4.     Genetics: Some people are genetically predisposed to having thin gum tissue, which makes them more sensitive to recession. 5.     Teeth grinding (bruxism): Forceful grinding of the teeth puts pressure on the gums, causing them to recede. 6.     Tobacco use: Smoking or chewing tobacco reduces blood circulation in the gums, which accelerates tissue loss. 7.     Misaligned teeth: Uneven teeth create uneven pressure on the gums, which contributes to recession. How is gum recession treated? Non-surgical treatment of gum recession Deep gum cleaning is a procedure used to treat periodontal disease in the early stages. This procedure involves using special instruments to remove plaque, tartar, and bacteria from the tooth root surface. Then, the root surface is smoothed so that the gum tissue can reattach to the surface. This non-surgical treatment helps restore gum health and prevents further worsening of gum recession. Surgical treatment of gum recession Although deep cleaning helps restore gum health, it cannot restore lost gum tissue, for which surgical treatment is required. 1. Gum contouring A periodontist (gum specialist) will use a scalpel or laser to reshape the gum line. This procedure helps improve the aesthetic appearance of the gums and treat gum recession. 2. Gum grafting The periodontist takes gum tissue from another part of the mouth (usually the roof of the mouth) and stitches it into the areas of recession. Recovery can take about a week; this procedure is effective for gum restoration. 3. Regenerative therapy This modern approach involves moving back the gum tissue and placing a bone graft or other regenerative material to replace lost bone. Regenerative therapy is usually used as a last resort when periodontal disease has caused significant damage to the gums and bone tissue.

Implant

Implants are used to replace missing teeth and are considered one of the most popular methods in modern dentistry. Implants allow us to restore a single missing tooth, as well as multiple teeth with a bridge or a full denture.What materials are used to make implants?Traditionally, implants are made of titanium – a material that is fully biocompatible and integrates with the bone during the healing process. In recent years, zirconium implants have been used more frequently, which offer the same high level of efficiency and durability as titanium ones. Advantages of implants:- Maximum resemblance to natural teeth;- Long-term durability and reliability;- Biocompatible and safe materials;- Stable and aesthetic results; Implant structureAn implant is basically a small titanium or zirconium screw that is placed into the jawbone and performs the function of a tooth root. A special component called an abutment is attached to the implant, which ensures the secure attachment of a crown, bridge, or denture.After implant placement, a healing period (2-6 months) is required, during which the integration of the implant and bone occurs – osseointegration. After this, the implant is ready for the permanent crown or bridge to be attached. Implantation procedure: The implantation procedure, as a rule, is carried out in several stages and on average involves several months.1. X-ray examination First of all, an X-ray of the jaw is necessary so that the dentist can accurately determine the condition of the jawbone for implantation. 2. Surgical placement of the implant The implant is placed via a minor surgical operation under local anesthesia. 3. Bone healing period The growth of bone tissue around the implanted implant takes about 3 months on average. This process is important because it ensures the implant is firmly fixed in the jawbone. 4. Fabrication of the crown The next stage is the fabrication of a custom crown, bridge, or denture. 5. Attachment of the crown, bridge, or denture Once the implant is firmly fixed and the gum has healed, the dentist places the ready crown, bridge, or denture, which restores the missing tooth. Why iCare Dental clinic? iCare Dental clinic offers implants with the highest quality standards: European quality materials: We use only reliable, certified implantation materials. Modern equipment: CAD/CAM technology ensures precise and aesthetic results. Personalized approach: We create an individual treatment plan for each patient. Gingivitis - Pulpitis

The pulp is the soft inner tissue of the tooth that contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. Pulpitis is an inflammation of the pulp, which typically occurs due to irritation inside the tooth, for example, as a result of deep caries.  Types of pulpitis  There are two main types of pulpitis, classified according to the degree of infection:  1. Reversible pulpitis: At this early stage, the inflammation is reversible if the dentist restores the tooth and seals it with a filling.  2. Irreversible pulpitis: At this stage, the inflammation is more severe, and the tooth can no longer be restored. The pulp tissue eventually dies, which is called pulp necrosis.  Causes of pulpitis  The hard enamel of the tooth protects the pulp. If the enamel is damaged, it can lead to pulpitis. Causes of damage include:  - Caries: Bacteria in the mouth produce acid that destroys the enamel and creates holes.  - Cracks: Small cracks can appear as a result of chewing hard food or tooth trauma.  - Dental procedures: Tooth treatment can lead to pulpitis, especially if the filling is not properly sealed.  - Enamel wear: Bruxism or aggressive brushing can cause  enamel wear, which makes the nerve more sensitive to inflammation.  How is pulpitis diagnosed?  Dentists diagnose pulpitis mainly by assessing tooth sensitivity:  - Electric pulp test: This test determines whether the pulp is alive. The dentist uses an instrument that delivers a small electrical pulse to the tooth. If the pulp is alive, you will feel stimulation; if it is dead, you will not feel it.  - Hot or cold test: The dentist will touch your teeth with a hot or cold substance. In case of irreversible pulpitis, the sensitivity lasts for more than a few seconds.  - Touching the tooth: Gentle touching of the tooth. Pain at this time is a sign of irreversible pulpitis.  - Dental X-ray: This helps the dentist identify tooth defects and signs of infection.  How is pulpitis treated? Reversible pulpitis:  The dentist attempts to remove the cause of the inflammation, which often involves removing the caries and sealing the tooth with a filling.  Irreversible pulpitis:  In this case, more intensive treatment is required, such as root canal treatment. Usually, this procedure is performed by an endodontist. They remove the infected pulp, clean the root canal, and fill it with a filling.   Why iCare Dental clinic? iCare Dental clinic offers pulpitis (tooth nerve inflammation) treatment to the highest quality standards: Professional and trusted doctors; European quality materials: We use only trusted, certified materials. Modern equipment: CAD/CAM technology ensures precise and aesthetic results. Personalized approach: We create an individual treatment plan for each patient.
